Using Perifit for the first time

In this article:

  • Clean your Perifit and your hands

  • Switch your Perifit on

  • Insert your Perifit

  • Activate your smartphone Bluetooth and launch the Perifit App

  • Activate a program and start training

1. Clean your Perifit and your hands

Wash your Perifit with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.

Your Perifit is water-resistant but should not be submerged or used in the bathtub.

Please wash your hands too, as they will enter in contact with the genital area.

Finally, if you are prone to urinary tract infection, we recommend that you also wash the skin around the anus and the genital area. This will help prevent triggering an infection while inserting or pulling out the Perifit.

2. Switch your Perifit on

With clean hands, switch on your Perifit by pressing the ON/OFF button. You should hear a click sound.

When your Perifit is ON, the green LED should blink.

3. Insert your Perifit

Lie down comfortably with your knees bent and legs slightly apart. Insert the Perifit in your vagina.

Tip: Perifit is meant to be inserted as such, without the use of a lubricant. However, if it feels uncomfortable to insert it, feel free to use a water-based lubricant.

The two pebble-shaped sensors go inside your vagina and the white collar and wire remain outside.

The white collar should be aligned with your front-to-back axis, with the ON/OFF button directed toward your clitoris and the lotus LED toward your anus. This position is important to keep as it allows sensors to work the most effectively.

4. Activate your smartphone Bluetooth and launch the Perifit App

Activate the Bluetooth from your smartphone or tablet menu. At this stage, do not try to pair the 2 devices from your settings.

Launch the Perifit App, follow the activation guidelines, and head to the Train tab. The app will setup the connection to your Perifit on itself.

5. Activate a program and start training

From here, you can either:

1- Activate the program of your choice by swiping on the Training program carousel;
2- Take the test to find the training program that suits you best;
3- Launch the Practice mode to experiment with biofeedback freely.

5.1 Activate a program

If you know which program is right for you, you can directly swipe on the Training program carousel and activate it.

Then tap Start to connect your Perifit and play a game.

If you ever want to take the test, you can find it back by swiping left in the Training program carousel.

Once you have activated a program, you will start your first games. You can read about Levels & Games Selection to learn more about how to play games and activate your pelvic floor.

5.2 Play your first game

Every new training session with Perifit will trigger a calibration step before starting your first game during this session. This calibration will ask you to contract and relax, 3 times in a row. The goal of calibration is to adapt the game to your current pelvic floor's strength.

Tip: If needed, you can pause a game at any time to do a new calibration. If the game is too hard and you want to take it slow, feel free to give only 50% of your best during calibration.

During a game, the sole superficial pelvic floor's sensor will make the pin move and reach your targets. The deep intra-abdominal pressure sensor will reflect in the Contraction Quality Meter that shows up on the lower-right corner of your screen, showing you when you are adding it to the equation (the needle would go to the red area).

Within each game, there is a contraction pattern offered. You can find this contraction pattern in the lower-right corner of your screen, to the left of the Contraction Quality Meter.
The most important is to try to follow the curves suggested by this pattern, not reach all targets at no cost. If you miss one of the targets, it's totally fine. Try avoiding to rapidly contract and relax to get it when you have missed it, it will do more harm than good.
And trust, we have rarely seen someone reaching all targets ! It's totally normal.

5.3 Take the test

If you don't know which training program suits you best, you can Take our symptoms test. When completed, it will suggest the best program for you based on your incontinence symptoms. The test is accessible from the Train tab by swiping left within the training program's carrousel.

5.4 Launch the Practice mode

If you launch the Practice mode the app will connect to your Perifit and allow you to experiment with biofeedback in its purest form.

Try squeezing your pelvic floor muscles like you would to block wind or stop the flow of urine (but don't make a habit of doing it while urinating as it increases the risk of urinary tract infection). If you could use a refresher on how to perform Kegels, read Kegel 101.

You should see the green pin (superficial sensor) fly toward the top of your screen when you contract your pelvic floor and then go down when you relax your pelvic floor muscles. The red pin (deep sensor) should be kept as low as possible at it transcribes your intra-abdominal pressure.
